On AI and vibe coding

Hi. I don't usually talk like this publicly, but something's been on my mind a lot lately, and I can't not talk about it.

It's vibe coding. If you don't know what that is, let me explain. To put it simply, vibe coding is where you ask AI to code ideas you have. It's your ideas, and AI's execution. And I'll be up front about it. Vibe coding is.. actually awesome. In my case, I use it to code things that I'm not skilled in yet. For example, the frame on Updates showing what each version of my projects would look like when planned changes go into effect on July 7, was vibe coded using a combination of Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.6, Google's Gemini 3.5 Flash, and OpenAI's GPT-5.5. (Note: I was waiting for my Claude message limit to reset, so I used Gemini—which sucks, so I switched to GPT-5.5.)

You might have noticed a small disclaimer at the bottom of every page, saying something like "More advanced features of this page, such as timezone auto-detection or expandable version lists, were coded by Claude Sonnet 4.6." That's just one version of the disclaimer, but they all convey the same point. AI is helping me make this website in some way shape or form. And to be clear, only some of the coding parts. All text is my own writing. I don't want AI writing for me. As a matter of fact, as I'm writing this in VS Code right now, I'm literally getting AI auto-complete suggestions. (Please stop giving them to me.) Anyway, I can do basic code, like making divs to group items or changing a background image (usually; on occasion I hit a snag with something like an incorrectly-typed letter or word) but the text is all my own.

Anyways, to my point for writing this whole thing. I'm concerned that people might think less of me because I use AI to code. It bothers me a lot. I know many people who are anti-AI in every way, whether it's for coding, writing, image or video generation, etc. And in some ways, I am too. Like we don't need our feeds filled with sloppily-generated content of characters entirely created by AI. However, I do support AI if it's used wisely. In the case of coding, that means AI assisting you in coding your app or site, rather than generating it entirely. As a matter of fact, AI agent and assistant OpenClaw announced an app for iOS and Android yesterday, and I can guarantee you that if it's not entirely vibe coded, most of the app is.

And yeah, sure, any use of AI—good or not—(supposedly) wastes water, but I could write a whole other essay-long entry on AI's water use. My point is that AI can in fact be beneficial, but only if it's used responsibly. Again, not to generate whole websites, but to assist in the more difficult parts.

This wasn't meant to be a perfectly crafted entry, but more of a way to get my thoughts out. I might write more entries like this, and I might not. We'll see.
